Ninety-eight percent of 2,500 fairy tales studied depict elderly people as blind, as beggars, as village idiots, or as witches. An inexact but comparable proportion of TV shows portray elderly people as despots or as fools. Can you explain the why of that?

Add this: Centuries ago, when a shoemaker worked alone, he talked more than any. Not to himself, exactly. To his nails. He addressed them by name, and asked them how they were doing today, and so on. It was a tradition of that profession.
