Maria José, a nineteen-year-old hunchback consumptive who wrote a desperate, unmailed love letter to a handsome metalworker who passed under her window on his way to work each day; and so on.
-
His articles in praise of the saudosismo (nostalgia) movement provoked polemics because of their extravagant language.

The poetical technique for which Pessoa has become especially noted is the use of heteronyms, or alternative literary personae, resembling the verse personae of Ezra Pound. or Søren Kierkegaard's "characters" who actually "authored" some of his books. Pessoa's own name means both person and persona.

Richard Zenith's translation of the "Tudo quanto" passage is but one of what Pessoa apparently would call its "possible meanings" — or, perhaps, its "multiple" or "myriad" meanings.

Geertgen tot Sint Jan
-
Geertgen is presumed to have been born in Leiden and he died in Haarlem. His teacher was probably Albert van Ouwater. Geertgen owes his name to the fact that between 1480 and 1495 he was attached to the monastery of St John's Brethren in Haarlem. He did not belong to the order but worked for the monks, painting a large altarpiece for their church. According to the biographer Karel van Mander Geertgen died at the age of 28 and was buried at St John's monastery. There are twelve works which are known to be from his hand. The high quality of these works has led him to be considered the founder of Northern Netherlandish art.

the webs he parted every morning,
the hounds' hair combed from brushes,
the dust swept into piles with sparrows' feathers.
Who makes the laws that live
inside the brick and mortar of a name,
selects the seeds, garden or wild...

If you expect to do a paper on the sensitive, perceptive and courageous nature of women, don't leave out the fact that for decades they've dominated the close-up-and-personal research on gorillas.
